Jesse Lingard in action against the A-League All Stars.

United's last pre-season match in Australia

Manchester United will return to Australia this summer, six years after our last pre-season visit - when the Reds ran out 5-1 winners against the Australian A-League All Stars.

The match was the second summer friendly of our pre-season tour in 2013 and was played in front of 83,127 fans at the Olympic Stadium in Sydney.

Jesse Lingard pounced on a loose ball to score his first-ever goal for United after 10 minutes, before Ryan Giggs played in Danny Welbeck to double our advantage shortly after the half-hour mark.

The All Stars pulled a goal back six minutes into the second half courtesy of all-time leading A-League goalscorer Besart Berisha, who slotted the ball inside Anders Lindegaard's near post.

United were unmoved and quickly re-established our two-goal cushion three minutes later, as Lingard cut inside and unleashed a thunderous effort into the top-right corner of the goal for his second of the match.

Welbeck also bagged a brace when heading home our fourth goal from a corner with 20 minutes to play.

Fellow striker Robin van Persie, brought on as a second-half substitute in place of Giggs, rounded things off when the Dutchman, played in by Lingard, powerfully drove a right-footed shot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Van Persie finished off the scoring in a comprehensive win for United.

Of course, the Reds will be back Down Under when we face local A-League side Perth Glory on Saturday 13 July, before taking on historic rivals Leeds United four days later, on Wednesday 17 July. Both games will be played at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
