Last season's home game v West Ham Women

Friday 10 November 2023 16:00

Manchester United Women’s new WSL season continues on Sunday with a home game against West Ham United at Leigh Sports Village.

Marc Skinner’s side are still unbeaten after five league games, having rescued a 2-2 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion last time out through Rachel Williams’ leveller deep into stoppage time, following a stunning earlier strike by Ella Toone.

Skinner admitted after that game that his team squandered too many chances but he had no such complaints after Thursday night's stunning 7-0 win over Everton in the Continental Tyres Cup.

And the United boss will be looking for more of the same this weekend against a Hammers side who have gone three games without a win.

LAST SEASON’S FIXTURE: UNITED 4-0 WEST HAM, 25 MARCH 2023

United dominated West Ham in the corresponding fixture last season, although all the goals came in the second half in a game played in front of 27,000 fans at Old Trafford.

Katie Zelem opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Alessia Russo had been fouled the box by Hawa Cissoko, before Ella Toone provided a superb pass over the top for substitute Lucia Garcia to guide home.

Hayley Ladd applied the finishing touch to a well-worked team move late in the game and Garcia completed her brace in stoppage time, converting a rebound after Martha Thomas’ shot had been parried.

That victory secured the league double over West Ham, with the Reds having also won 2-0 in London earlier in the season. And it extended our unbeaten league run against the Hammers to six games since being promoted to the top flight in 2019.
