How to follow Atletico v United

Friday 29 July 2022 09:06

Manchester United play the first match of this weekend’s pre-season double-header, against Atletico Madrid in Oslo.

This fixture is a valuable test for Erik ten Hag’s side, who finished our tour of Australia and Thailand unbeaten, and seconds away from recording a 100 per cent record.

The Spanish giants will be awkward and much-respected opponents but the Reds must want to set things straight by defeating the side who narrowly eliminated us from last season’s Champions League.

WHERE'S THE MATCH BEING PLAYED?

United will take on Atletico in the Ullevaal Stadion, the home ground of the Norway national team.

Kick-off at the 28,000-capacity arena is set for 12:45 BST.

UNITED’S FORM

Despite the Reds going unbeaten on our tour of Australia and Thailand, the Ten Hag wasn’t pleased with the way his side conceded a late equaliser against Aston Villa last Saturday, as Steven Gerrard’s side earned a 2-2 draw in Perth.

United were back on the training pitch at Carrington ahead this week, with the Dutchman again putting his side through their paces in a series of intense drills.

WILL WE SEE OUR NEW SIGNINGS?

Both Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen took part in first-team training this week and are expected to make their debuts this weekend, whether that be on Saturday against Atletico or on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano.

Ten Hag is yet to announce his squad for either clash, but the Dutchman is expected to split his group across the two weekend fixtures. Keep an eye out for updates on our plans.

ATLETICO UPDATES

Diego Simeone’s side have played one pre-season match so far, defeating Spanish third-tier side Numancia 4-0 on Wednesday.

Atletico’s squad for that match was: Oblak, Savić, Giménez, Reinildo, Kondogbia, Wass, De Paul, Lemar, Carrasco, Correa, Morata, Cunha, Díez, Gomís, Grbic, Griezmann, Hermoso, Witsel, Llorente, Lodi, Koke, Riquelme, Saúl.

We can expect this squad to be similar for Saturday’s clash.
