Friday 16 December 2022 15:21

Manchester United Under-21s are set to play PSV Eindhoven’s Under-21s at Leigh Sports Village on Monday evening, in the third match of the Premier League International Cup.

Having picked up just one point from our first two games in the competition, Mark Dempsey will be looking for his side to kickstart their campaign, starting with our Dutch visitors.

Ahead of Monday’s clash – which tickets are still available for – get the lowdown on how you can follow the action and how the two sides shape up coming into it.

HOW CAN YOU FOLLOW THE GAME?

This one is not being broadcast on television; however you will still be able to follow the action in the United App and on ManUtd.com.

For those that cannot attend the game at LSV, team news will be available prior to the 19:00 GMT kick-off, while live updates and images during and after the match will ensure you don’t miss any of the action.

And as if that wasn’t enough, highlights will also be posted across our official platforms later on.

TICKETS

You can still get tickets to come and cheer on the Under-21s at LSV for free, but tickets must be claimed in advance via the Leigh Sports Village ticketing website.

Following the 1,600-strong crowd who travelled to support the Reds in Tuesday’s Papa Johns Trophy match at Bolton, United will hope to attract similar numbers for this fixture.

SETTING THE SCENE

The Under-21s have experienced fluctuating results this term, and currently sit 11 in the Premier League 2.

Last time out, Dempsey’s side were defeated 4-0 by League 1 side Bolton Wanderers in the Papa Johns Trophy third round – the furthest any young Reds side has ever got in the competition.

Prior to this match, United had defeated Wolves’ Under-21s in the second round of the same competition, having been beaten by Monaco and Man City in the two previous fixtures.

Some of our Under-21s, however, travelled with our first team to the winter training camp in Spain, such as Kobbie Mainoo and Sam Murray, to name just two. They will no doubt be looking to apply some of this experience to help United get our first win of the competition on Monday.

On the other hand, the opposition have won one and drawn one in their opening two Premier League International Cup fixtures.

The Dutch side currently sit third in Group B, three points above United, and would move to the top of the group with victory at LSV.

A win for the Reds, though, would move Dempsey’s team level on points with PSV and Arsenal’s Under-21s, with goal difference likely to separate them.
