WHAT’S THE TEAM NEWS?

Christian Eriksen was absent from our draw with Newcastle on Sunday, due to illness, but made his return in the latter stages of the match against former employers Spurs.

Scott McTominay was another absentee from the clash with the Magpies, because of suspension, but was introduced as a second-half substitute against Conte’s side on Wednesday.

In his press conference before Wednesday's match, Ten Hag indicated that Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial could be back soon. The Dutchman will hopefully deliver an update on that quartet in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Meanwhile, Graham Potter is without Reece James and N’Golo Kante, both of whom are expected to be sidelined until after the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Ben Chilwell should be back in contention for the Blues, while Connor Gallagher is a doubt through illness.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last season, both Premier League clashes between United and Chelsea finished 1-1. The campaign prior to that, neither fixture saw any goals, with two 0-0 stalemates being recorded.

Historically, Stamford Bridge is a tough place for United to visit, with our last victory there coming in February 2020, when Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire scored on the way to a 2-0 victory.

However, that win was United’s Premier League first triumph at the home of the Blues since October 2012, when a David Luiz own goal and further efforts from Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez earned the Reds a 3-2 win.

Of the 60 Premier League fixtures between the two sides to date, 25 of them have finished level. At present, Chelsea edge United in league wins in this fixture, with 18 to 17. Ten Hag – and our supporters – will no doubt hope the Reds can redress the balance on Saturday evening.

FORM GUIDE

United are looking to follow up Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Spurs with another win when we travel to Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea drew 0-0 last time out, away to Brentford.

Over the last week, both sides have accumulated four points, with Ten Hag’s side drawing 0-0 with Newcastle last weekend and Potter’s Blues winning 2-0 away to Villa on the same day.

Our win against Spurs saw many neutrals refer to it as the match where Erik’s Manchester United "ignited", praising the completeness of the performance, both in attack and defence.

Potter, on the other hand, is also seeking to impart his style on his team, having succeeded Thomas Tuchel at the start of September. The former Brighton boss is unbeaten in his first four Premier League matches in charge of the Blues.
