How to watch and follow Liverpool v United

Thursday 02 January 2025 14:44

Manchester United kick off the new year on Sunday, as we travel to Anfield to face old rivals Liverpool.

Ruben Amorim and his men will be looking to start 2025 on a successful note and put a difficult December in the rear-view mirror when we arrive in L4.

Our opponents are currently leading the table by six points at the halfway stage, but they did have their struggles when facing us last term, including being held to a goalless draw on Merseyside by an injury-hit United side just over 12 months ago.

Before our first game of the new calendar year, we look at everything you need to know, including essential live match coverage, the latest on team news from both sides, what to expect from our rivals and more...

HOW TO WATCH

This Sunday’s game will be televised on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Main Event in the UK, with kick-off at 16:30 GMT.

The official United platforms will also provide a worldwide service for this huge clash via our Match Day Live show, which gets underway at 15:25 GMT.

Radio commentary will also be available for the match, with pre-match and post-match coverage also covering events live on the ground at Anfield. Our Match Centre in the United App and ManUtd.com will provide the latest updates and stats from the game, with highlights to accompany two hours after the full-time whistle.

TEAM NEWS

Amorim’s side will be bolstered by the return of Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte, who will be back for selection after serving suspensions during our last game against Newcastle.

Mason Mount has been sidelined since picking up an injury in the Manchester derby last month, while Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have also been missing. Lindelof sustained a problem during the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham, while Shaw hasn't played since our 4-0 victory over Everton.

Ruben may provide updates during his press conference on Friday.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have a fresh injury absentee, as Joe Gomez limped off during the first half of their last fixture against West Ham. Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley are doubtful but Dominik Szoboszlai can return after serving a suspension.

OPPOSITION REPORT

Liverpool sit top of the table with a healthy six-point lead over Arsenal in second place.

The Merseysiders' frontman Mohamed Salah has been in a league of his own this season and will need to be contained, after scoring 17 goals and providing 13 assists already in 2024/25. The Egyptian has more goals and assists against us than any other player in Premier League history.

Liverpool duo Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have also proven to be tricky customers this season, with both scoring at West Ham last time out and Diaz netting a brace in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford.
