OUR OPPONENTS
Fiorentina finished sixth in Serie A last season, securing their passage into the UEFA Conference League. Their pre-season preparations have also included meetings with fellow English sides Leicester City and Nottingham Forest, before making the short hop north to Old Trafford.
La Viola have won the Italian top-flight twice in their esteemed history, as well as the now-defunct Cup Winners' Cup.
Of course their most notable current player is ex-United goalkeeper De Gea, who spent 12 years with the Reds between 2011 and 2023.
United played Fiorentina in the group stages of the Champions League in the 1999/2000 season. The Italian side were 2-0 winners in Florence, before United responded with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford with goals from Andy Cole, Roy Keane and Dwight Yorke.
Gabriel Batistuta scored in both legs, including one of the best European strikes seen by an away player at Old Trafford.

Gabriel Batistuta returns to Old Trafford on Sunday, so let’s recall his ferocious goal for Fiorentina at Old Trafford…
A CHANCE TO SEE OUR NEW BOYS
Most United fans will be waiting with bated breath to see new duo Cunha and Mbeumo in action together in M16, as well as young full-back Leon.
The pair have played in the stadium a few times before for Wolves and Brentford respectively, but this could be your first chance to see them both take to the Old Trafford pitch as United players.
"Only in my grandma's house, we can watch the Premier League, so we organised to go every weekend. And for me, it was always a bit inside of me, this club," said Cunha during his first interview as a United player earlier this month.
"When I play with [my cousin] in the street, on the beach, on the gravel pitch, we called these pitches 'Old Trafford.' Imagine."
WHO ELSE CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE?
Plenty of your favourite United stars will be in action too, and pre-season often presents the opportunity for the latest prospects from our Academy to gain first-team minutes, meaning there will be no shortage of intrigue surrounding Fiorentina's visit.
Fresh from the United States, Amorim and his team will then have just eight days to prepare for Arsenal's visit on the opening day of the season.
