WHAT’S THE TEAM NEWS?

Raphael Varane returned to the United starting XI for Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle, but the Reds were without Christian Eriksen through illness.

Ahead of that match, Ten Hag revealed that Anthony Martial was nearing his return to fitness while he expects Harry Maguire to resume training within the next fortnight.

Martin Dubravka was ineligible to face his parent club at the weekend, so will be available on Wednesday but Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been sidelined.

For the visitors, Emerson Royal remains suspended after his red card against Arsenal, while Richarlison was injured during the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

Japhet Tanganga remains out, while Dejan Kulusevski is a doubt.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The last time we faced Spurs it was at Old Trafford, and Cristiano Ronaldo produced a match-winning hat-trick to earn the Reds a 3-2 victory and move to top spot in FIFA’s all-time goalscorers list.

In the away fixture last season, United came out on top too. Ronaldo again was on the scoresheet, with Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford helping the Reds to a 3-0 win.

Wednesday will be our 198th meeting with Spurs in all competitions - and 100th at home – and United have historically performed well in this fixture, with 94 wins to the Londoners' 53.

Ten Hag will surely hope to emulate our predecessors this week, with the Reds eager to close the seven-point gap to the London club, while having a game in hand on our visitors.

FORM GUIDE

Last time out, United drew 0-0 with Newcastle at Old Trafford, which followed a 1-0 Europa League win over Omonia on Thursday and a 2-1 away win at Everton last Sunday.

Spurs overcame Frank Lampard’s Toffees on Saturday, with Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scoring the goals. Kane is in a rich vein of form himself, and currently occupies second place in the Premier League top scorers list, with nine goals in 10 matches.

WHO ELSE IS PLAYING?

There are nine Premier League matches being played across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with Arsenal and Manchester City’s match postponed, due to the Gunners having a rearranged Europa League tie with PSV Eindhoven.
