How to watch and follow United v Wolves

Thursday 11 May 2023 07:00

Manchester United face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday in what is a must-win game in the race for the Premier League’s top four.

After defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United in quick succession, Liverpool are now breathing down our necks, with our arch-rivals just a point behind in fifth, albeit having played a game extra.

Julen Lopetegui’s Wolves secured their top-flight safety at the weekend but could prove a tricky prospect at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Black Country outfit were in the relegation zone when we visited Molineux on New Year’s Eve, but they’ve taken 27 points in 2023 to steer well clear of the drop, although much of the improvement under Lopetegui has come at home.

HOW CAN YOU FOLLOW THE GAME?

The meeting with Wolves is scheduled to start in the traditional Saturday 15:00 BST kick-off time at Old Trafford, with no live coverage in the UK. Due to our involvement in the Europa League, Saturday afternoon games have been a real rarity this season, with this being just the second instance after February’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Our Match Day Live show will also bring you exclusive pre-match insight and post-match analysis, and it will begin at 13:55 BST on MUTV. You can watch Match Day Live on ManUtd.com and in our app, with live radio commentary available throughout the 90 minutes.

WHEN CAN YOU SEE THE HIGHLIGHTS?

Two-minute highlights of the game will be available two hours after the final whistle, with 90 in 20 and Full 90 versions published at midnight (UK time).

WHAT’S THE TEAM NEWS?

Alejandro Garnacho could make a first appearance since March. The 18-year-old was an unused substitute at the London Stadium on Sunday, as he works his way back from an ankle injury.

Raphael Varane and Scott McTominay have been absent in recent weeks, while Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek are out for the season.

For Wolves, Nelson Semedo is back from a knee injury while winger Chiquinho is on the comeback trail but won’t feature in Manchester.

Sasa Kalajdzic and Boubacar Traore are still sidelined with long-term issues.

FORM GUIDE

United will be glad to be back on home soil after the successive reverses at Brighton and West Ham. Erik ten Hag’s side have been impressive at Old Trafford all season, winning 12 and drawing three of our 15 league games in M16 since the opening-day defeat to the Seagulls. Only one of our last five league clashes has taken place in Manchester, with Bruno Fernandes’s goal settling a close game with Aston Villa last Sunday.

Lopetegui’s men are now mathematically safe after their own one-goal victory over Villa, coupled with other results over the weekend, established an unassailable 10-point cushion to the drop zone. Although Wolves have been impressive at Molineux, winning five of their last six without conceding, they have only tasted victory twice on the road this season. Both wins, over Everton and Southampton, finished 2-1 and were settled by late goals.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

Wolves will be bolstered by the fact they won at Old Trafford on their last visit, as Joao Moutinho’s 82nd-minute winner settled a fairly uneventful game in January 2022. The away team has actually won each of the last four Premier League meetings between these two sides: Marcus Rashford’s sole goal was enough for us to claim all three points earlier in this campaign.
