Preview: United Women v PSG

Monday 09 October 2023 08:00

History is set to be made at Leigh Sports Village this Tuesday (10 October), as Manchester United face PSG in our first-ever UEFA Women's Champions League outing.

Marc Skinner's side will be looking to make a positive first impression in our opening game of the primary European competition, and build on an unbeaten start to the new WSL season.

Our round-two opponents also come into this week's first leg in good form, having won two of their opening three domestic games in Division 1 Feminine.

HOW YOU CAN FOLLOW THE GAME

Our first-leg meeting with the French side at Leigh Sports Village is scheduled to kick off at 20:00 BST.

The game will be shown live on MUTV, ManUtd.com and in our app, with coverage beginning 30 minutes before kick-off. You will also be able to find matchday updates - including the team news - in our official app.

If you are planning to head to Leigh Sports Village but are yet to secure your ticket, there is a limited amount still available to purchase here.

WHAT'S THE TEAM NEWS?

The Reds will definitely be without young midfielder Emma Watson, who suffered a serious knee injury just before the start of the season whilst on international duty with Scotland. Defender Aoife Mannion was also ruled out of our most recent outing, against Arsenal on Friday, and head coach Skinner could provide an update on the defender in his pre-match press conference today (Monday).

Marc has made clear that rotation will be a key factor in managing the busy upcoming schedule, which could give players such as Melvine Malard, who netted as a substitute in the draw with the Gunners, an opportunity in the starting line-up.

Likely to play some role is Brazilian striker Geyse, who won the competition last season with Barcelona before her move to United, so has all the experience boss Skinner will be looking for.

Notably, we could be reunited with former Reds centre-back Aissatou Tounkara on the night. The defender joined PSG in the summer having spent last season in Manchester, and played a full 90 minutes in her new club's last game, a 1-0 win against Saint-Etienne. She's not the only ex-Red in their ranks either, with former fans' favourite Jackie Groenen also swapping Manchester for Paris in recent years.

FORM GUIDE

United have made a positive start in the new WSL season and remain unbeaten after our first two outings.

A late winner from Rachel Williams on the opening day against Aston Villa got us off to the perfect start, which looked like being repeated in our second game against Arsenal, before Cloe Lacasse managed to level the game for our opponents at 2-2, just before the final whistle.

Tuesday's visitors PSG also made a winning beginning to their league campaign, with a dominant 3-0 triumph over Bordeaux. Gerard Precheur stepped down from his position as head coach shortly after that match, with former assistant coach Jocelyn Precheur taking interim charge of the team since.

The latter's reign has so far included a victory and a loss, after the Parisians responded to a 1-0 defeat against eight-time UEFA Women's Champions League winners Lyon with a win at Saint-Etienne by the same scoreline.
