The Ronaldo effect hits Old Trafford in a big way

Ronaldo and no.7 is part of United folklore and its legend has been clear in the hours following Thursday’s announcement, because demand to buy the shirt continues to be unprecedented. 

Fans have been queueing up outside the Old Trafford Megastore all day long, with the line snaking around the famous United Trinity statue on the forecourt. The mood is predictably ecstatic and, as you can see in the video below, many have been proud to show their United colours. 

The Portuguese enjoyed six unforgettable seasons in the jersey between 2003 and 2009, before his glittering career took him to new adventures with Real Madrid and Juventus. 

Ronaldo completed an electrifying transfer back to United in late August and, on Thursday evening, we were delighted to confirm he would wear that famous no.7 shirt once again. 

Reacting to the news, Cristiano was quick to pay tribute to his new team-mate Edinson Cavani for giving up the shirt, in a touch of class that has also been widely praised by Reds supporters. 

Everybody is excited to see Ronaldo wearing his 2021/22 United shirt on the pitch and that will hopefully take place in next weekend’s Premier League match against Newcastle at Old Trafford. 

The prospect of Cristiano running out at a packed Old Trafford is enough to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, and the man himself admits our supporters have always been special to him.

Speaking in our exclusive interview earlier this week, Ronny gave this message to you: “Well, the fans is the key of football. Now, with all the stadiums full of supporters, it’s not the same that we had one year ago, those empty stadiums. The fans, they are the key, and I’m so glad. 

“The Manchester United fans, they are special, I know, I remember very well. I know they still sing my music which has made me feel even more happy and my commitment is to give everything on the pitch, like I did before, like I do it all the time, and try to do my best, help the team score goals, make assists, win games, and I hope to see them very, very soon.”
