Injury boost as United prepare to face Leeds

Monday 15 July 2019 06:28

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw took part in training on Monday morning, which is positive news for the left-back after he limped out of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Perth Glory.

The recent Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner was substituted in the closing stages at Optus Stadium and replaced by young midfielder James Garner, who went on to score his first goal in senior football with an impressive long-range strike that fizzed into the bottom corner.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after the victory that Shaw had felt some tightness in his hamstring, but the defender was pictured training with the rest of the United squad at The WACA base on Monday.

The boss may provide an update on Luke’s availability in his next press conference, which will be held at around 03:00 BST on Tuesday (10:00 local time in Australia).

A FURTHER BOOST TO THE SQUAD

Lee Grant, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku also all took part in the session, after missing the weekend win over Perth Glory with what the manager described as “niggles”.

It is not yet known if those four players are available to feature in our second match of Tour 2019, against Leeds United at Optus Stadium on Wednesday, which will be shown live on MUTV.

The manager will hopefully provide an update in his press conference on Tuesday.

Solskjaer is keen to ensure all of his players receive a fair share of playing time, which was emphasised by his decision to use 23 members of his 28-man squad in the first match.

THE FIRST OF TWO SESSIONS

After completing a recovery day on Sunday, the Reds returned to full training on Monday morning for the first of two sessions that were scheduled – with the other set for early in the evening.

As our cameras and photographers captured, the work was sharp, intense and competitive in the perfect conditions that are continuing to boost the squad during the stay in Western Australia.

United’s time Down Under is nearing its completion, with further training planned for Tuesday before matchday against historic rivals Leeds on Wednesday.

The squad will then fly to Singapore on Thursday for the second leg of Tour 2019, which involves an International Champions Cup match against Italian club Inter Milan on Saturday.

Leeds will be the second of six pre-season games being shown live on MUTV this summer. The club's official television channel is available on MUTV.com, the MUTV app, Amazon Fire, Roku, Xbox and Apple TV.
