Brown's excited by two aspects of the table

Monday night’s 4-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers moved Manchester United up to sixth in the Premier League table with an improved goal difference of four.

The Reds produced an entertaining display at Molineux to earn a big victory, thanks to strikes from Bruno Fernandes (two), Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount.

It was a welcomed result in the Black Country and, encouragingly, a glance at the form table shows United have only lost once in the last nine top-flight matches.

Ruben Amorom’s men are now level on points with Chelsea, who have been widely described as title contenders, and the team is determined to kick on throughout the upcoming festive fixtures.

INSIDE CARRINGTON EP6 | Wes Brown dissects the big win at Wolves, before Foundation CEO John Shiels inspires us all…

Speaking in our latest Inside Carrington podcast, club legend Wes Brown reflects on the win at Wolves and wonders whether we can build on it.

“There was some really good play,” says the former defender and Academy graduate. “Don't get me wrong, we were playing against Wolves, who are bottom and have not won all season, but it was a chance for us to show what we can do.
“In parts of the first half the passing was very good, but in the second half we came into our own and I just hope that takes us forward into the Christmas period.

“It pushes up the league massively, into sixth, and anything can happen from here. If we can carry on performing like they did, you never know where we might be at the end of December. It's exciting.”

The flurry of second-half goals against Wolves had a positive impact on the team’s goal difference (four), with 26 scored and 22 conceded.

As Brown discusses, Sir Alex Ferguson would always instruct his teams to go for more goals and Wes admits it was occasionally puzzling for the players, but vital in the long run.

“In the last six games of the season, if you're two points ahead and you end up drawing you still know you're top of the league [on goal difference].

“Whether it was Arsenal or Chelsea and it was really tight, you had that mental feeling over your opponent.

“There were times when we'd win games two or three nil and the manager would say we should have scored five. 'Why were you messing about, why did you slow it down?'. That mentality can dampen other teams and it helps you so much.

“This is the best goal difference we've had for a while. Believe me, if you can score goals every game and a lot of goals, other teams look at you and start to panic.”
