Tuesday was hectic in Dublin!

The Carton House hotel in County Kildare was the place to be on Tuesday, as Manchester United stepped out to train on the first full day of our Irish camp.

With everyone settled in after Monday’s arrival, it was an early start as we rocked up for an action-packed day at the sprawling, picturesque facility.

First on the agenda was a meet and greet between the players and a number of guests, which included Westlife singer Nicky Byrne and Carla Rowe, captain of Dublin Ladies football team.

Also in attendance was young fan Harry McCormack and his family, who are all ardent Reds.

Harry, who lives locally, is a lifelong patient at Crumlin hospital in Dublin and has been unwell recently, so it was moving to see the squad put a smile on his face as they stopped to take photos and sign shirts, especially his favourite players Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko.

Harry is named after Munich hero Harry Gregg, and is one of seven siblings – all of whom share first names with former United players!

The guests were then taken out to the training pitches where they, alongside invited media, were able to watch the first 15 minutes of Michael Carrick’s session, on what was a beautiful spring morning – short-sleeve weather in these parts!

Coach Jonathan Woodgate had a quick chat with popstar Byrne, who came through the Leeds academy in the 1990s, before embarking on his music career.

“He reminded me of some funny stories!” revealed Byrne later, as he ran through some famous names from that side, including our former striker Alan Smith.

“I haven’t seen Woody in a long time, and it’s amazing to see him here and bump into him in Ireland.”

It was then cameras off for a while as the Reds got down to some tactical work, but we soon returned for a quick pitchside chat with assistant coach Steve Holland just after midday.

Steve explained the purpose of our Dublin trip, in an interview you’ll be able to watch in full from Wednesday morning.

A swift march over to the main hotel then saw us sit down with Michael Carrick, to discuss the international break, Harry Maguire’s contract and the last seven games of the season, among other things.

Amad and Bryan Mbeumo also had media duties to fulfil, appearing in front of journalists from the UK and Ireland to promote the friendly that will be played here, against Leeds United, in August.

There was still opportunity for the Ivorian to talk to club media before it was time to wrap up for the day, with the squad given some downtime in the afternoon.

“I think there's a little bit of freshness, and a little bit of focus again of getting everyone back together and spending some time here," explained Carrick.

“You know, having a bit of lunch and a bit of dinner and a few activities where we can have that connection and that spirit again, with players and the staff.”

But make no mistake, everyone will be back tomorrow (Wednesday) to continue the hard work and preparation ahead of next week.

Westlife’s Nicky Byrne explains his love for United and a decades-long connection with Jonathan Woodgate…

And there will no doubt be plenty of supporters here to see them, with locals turning up in their droves throughout the day to get a glimpse of their heroes.

“Has Bruno been out yet?” asked one, while another speculates as to whether he can get Bryan Mbeumo to give him a wave on Wednesday.

With two more days in Ireland, during the Easter holidays, there's more chance for fans to make the most of it.
