A very special edition of Inside United

Tuesday 14 November 2023 12:00

The latest edition of our monthly magazine celebrates the life and legacy of Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton.

December 2023’s Inside United, our first mag published since the sad news of Sir Bobby’s passing just over three weeks ago, features an extended tribute to arguably the greatest player in our club’s decorated history.

A shot of Charlton – at the age of 23 and during his Old Trafford playing days – beautifully adorns the cover, alongside the main lettering of ‘Remembering Sir Bobby’, written in silver foil on all physical copies.

Catch up on our broadcast from Old Trafford and Manchester Cathedral, where we said goodbye to a United icon...

Inside, you will find a voluminous section honouring the great man, led by an opening overview which mourns his passing.

The following pages feature a potted journey throughout his footballing career and an outline of his iconic status – beyond Manchester and England – before we pick seven of his most defining moments on the pitch.

There is also a closer look at Sir Bobby’s special relationship with Sir Matt Busby, a focus on his long association with the club after his playing days, Manchester United Foundation’s brilliant tribute to him and a selection of examples of when he appeared in Inside United over the years.

Readers will also see excerpts from the special MUTV documentary ‘Remembering Sir Bobby’ and a round-up of the many emotional tributes that have been paid to the World Cup winner and his family over recent weeks, from Sir Alex Ferguson and co.
It is perhaps quite fitting, then, that the new issue then goes from a former young Red turned club legend, to a pair of United’s fledgling players blazing current the trail.

Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri fielded some fun questions from a handful of our youthful supporters at a recent ‘kids press conference’ that we have the lowdown on.

There is also a double Danish helping of interviews to look out for, with the thoughts of Rasmus Hojlund and Peter Schmeichel included.

As always, we look ahead to the games coming up while the issue is on the shelves between 14 November and 11 December in the match-preview section – Erik ten Hag’s team play five times across four weeks that includes a crucial Champions League tie away to Galatasaray and Premier League matches against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Our regular fan segment features a report in on the first ‘Warm-up’ event of 2023/24, the monthly bulletin on our official supporters’ clubs and a My United Q&A with musician Trevor Rabin.

And last but certainly not least, the back page is dedicated to cartoonist Tony Husband, who sadly passed away recently. You will have likely seen his cartoons in one place or another down the years, including in Inside United, and this feature is a dedication to his life and work.

Those at Old Trafford for Saturday’s win over Luton may have noticed the issue was first on sale at the Theatre of Dreams over the weekend, while it is now available at all good newsagents and shops.
