Fred was delighted with his fine strike against Liverpool in the opening game of Tour 2022 and it reminded him of another he scored against the man in goal.

The Brazilian's delicious chipped finish in Thailand last Tuesday was one of the main highlights of a thoroughly enjoyable evening for the Reds.

Asked if it's the best he's scored for United, Fred insisted: "No, I don't think so." But it did remind him of another he'd fired home against the Liverpool keeper when both were at previous clubs.

Fred showed his Brazilian flair with this lovely finish against the Merseysiders, live on MUTV...

"I scored another against [him] in the Roma goal when I was at Shakhtar. It was a beautiful goal in the Champions League, it was a decisive goal as well, maybe it wasn't a better goal but it was more important," he recalls.

"I think it was in the moment, I saw Alisson was off his line and I chipped it over him. The ball fell to me asking to be chipped, I thought about striking it with power, though the keeper was off his line and I went for the chip and scored a lovely goal.

"I'm really happy to start pre-season well with a goal and we had a great game," he added. "We just have to continue taking things step by step to achieve our goals."
Pre-season and Tour 2022 has afforded the Reds important time to work with new manager Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff.

Fred has been hugely impressed by the communication and preparation for training and matches from the boss so far and he's looking forward to what's to come after two positive pre-season results.

"He's got a great footballing mind, you can already see it in the first two games how we're beginning to click," declared our no.17.

We get the full story from Fred about that wonderful goal against Liverpool...

"He's a great manager, who loves his work. He has a lot of different ideas. We need to absorb these ideas as soon as possible to put them into practice on the pitch. He has his own style of play and ideas and he's helping us, showing us what to do on the pitch.

"We're starting to understand his ideas, there's obviously a lot more still to develop. He likes to communicate with the players, he's always nearby on the pitch. This is really important and helpful for us.

"He's talking a lot to all the players about adjustments. This is important for us as a group, as a team. I hope we players can take it on board as quickly as possible and action it on the pitch."
