GETTING TO KNOW GROENEN

Born in Tilburg on 17 December 1994, Jackie Groenen started her club career at Goirlese Sportvereniging Blauw-Wit (GSBW) in her native Netherlands, before going on to represent SG Essen-Schönebeck and FCR 2001 Duisburg in Germany's Frauen-Bundesliga.

In 2014, the midfielder moved to England to join Chelsea in the Women’s Super League. Groenen spent one season with the West London club before returning to the German league to sign for FFC Frankfurt, where she has played since 2015.

The 24-year-old also represents her country and has amassed 46 appearances for the Netherlands, scoring two goals, since making her senior debut in January 2016. Groenen was a key player in the 2017 UEFA Women's Championship, which the Oranje won as the host nation, and was named in the Team of the Tournament.

Away from football, Jackie was also an elite judo athlete and won a series of youth championships across Europe. However, following an injury, she retired from judo in 2011 to focus solely on her football career.

Groenen is set to become the first overseas signing for Manchester United Women, following a successful inaugural season in which all the members of Casey Stoney's Championship-winning squad were British.
