Olsen & Robson agree: Eriksen's a top signing

Former Reds Jesper Olsen and Bryan Robson have been singing the praises of new Manchester United signing Christian Eriksen since it was announced last Friday.

The Dane has joined United on a free transfer after a short, but influential, spell at fellow Premier League club Brentford last season.

Old team-mates Olsen and Robson have been discussing what Eriksen will bring to United and where he can fit into the team under new manager Erik ten Hag.

“I think he’s more of an attacking type of player, but he’s disciplined, and he does work hard for the team, and he gets back into the right areas,” Robson said in our latest episode of The Debate, which you can watch in the video below.

Bryan goes onto compare Christian to another former Red, who had a similar career path to Eriksen with stints at Ajax and now United.

“He reminds me a little bit of Arnold Muhren, with the way he used to come in from the left and get into the right areas. Eriksen can do that. He’s got amazing quality on the ball.

“For set plays, it’s going to be a nice mixture with Bruno [Fernandes] and with him, there’s a lot of quality there and hopefully that will show.”

Fellow Dane, Olsen, is delighted to say 30-year-old Eriksen is a ‘lovely player’.

“He is probably one of those players that is kind of underrated because he does things very simple and very easy,” he said.

Olsen echoes Robson’s thoughts on the midfielder’s commitment to playing for the team ‘always.’

“I think he will be a great addition to Man United going forward,” he added.
But Eriksen isn’t the only new arrival that has fans talking.

On Sunday, the club announced that an agreement had been reached with Ajax for the transfer of Lisandro Martinez.

The 24-year-old is set to join former manager Ten Hag at the club, subject to medical, to player terms being finalised, and to UK visa requirements.

And the United We Stand editor Andy Mitten has given an insight into what kind of player fans can expect.

We are delighted to announce that Denmark international Christian has signed a three-year contract as a Red.

“He’s not the tallest central defender, but Ajax really needed him last year. Young players looked up to him,” Mitten said in The Debate.

“He’s tough, he gets stuck in, [he was] one of Ajax’s best players last year. If the manager thinks that this person will improve the team, then that’s a good thing.”

Both Martinez and Eriksen are familiar with United boss Ten Hag, and the way in which he wants to play, making them key additions going into the new season.

Every pre-season game - including Aston Villa (10:45 BST on Saturday) - will be shown live on MUTV, now available in our app and on ManUtd.com.
