Reaction to Lingard's positive Covid-19 test

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jesse Lingard have both provided their reaction, after it was announced the Manchester United midfielder has tested positive for Covid-19.

The lifelong Red has been performing excellently in this summer’s pre-season campaign and caught the eye in our three friendlies, against Derby County, Queens Park Rangers and Brentford.

Lingard was excited to feature in our final friendly of the summer, against Everton at Old Trafford, but unfortunately the Academy graduate was ruled out of action after a positive test for coronavirus.

The 28-year-old is now isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines.

It currently remains to be seen whether Lingard will be available to feature in next Saturday’s opening match of the 2021/22 season, against historic rivals Leeds United at Old Trafford.

Speaking to us ahead of kick-off, Solskjaer provided this update on the player: “You can take all the precautions and you might meet someone and something happens.

“Jesse's done really well in pre-season but he'll come back sharp. I don't think it's too bad.”

Reacting to the disappointing setback on social media, Jesse posted this message to his followers: “Really gutted to have tested positive after a good pre-season.

“Luckily I feel fine and will follow the guidelines and be back with the boys on the pitch very soon. Thank you for your support.”
