Hugill seals loan move

Thursday 25 July 2024 21:15

Manchester United striker Joe Hugill is joining Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2024/25 season, subject to Premier League, EFL and FA approval.

The 20-year-old scored the Reds' second goal in the 2-0 victory over Rangers in Edinburgh at the weekend, slamming in via the underside of the bar following good work by Maxi Oyedele.

Instead of being part of the squad going on Tour 2024, presented by Snapdragon, the youngster has linked up with his new team-mates at the League One club.

The Latics have handed Hugill the no.9 shirt and the FA Youth Cup winner will hopefully obtain regular first-team football and gain in experience under manager Shaun Maloney.

It is a second loan move for the centre-forward, who spent time at Burton Albion in the second half of last term, scoring on his debut for the Brewers, against Derby County, live on Sky Sports.

"I am delighted to be here," Hugill told Wigan's official website. "It's been a long time coming but I am over the moon to get it done, and I can't wait to get started.

"To get the no.9 shirt is a massive honour and I will wear it with pride.

"Hopefully, I can show what I can do with it."

Everyone wishes Joe the very best of luck and we'll be monitoring his progress closely over the season.
