Mourinho: Rojo may need recovery time

Tuesday 24 July 2018 17:51

Jose Mourinho admits there's a decision to be made on whether Marcos Rojo will link up with the Manchester United squad in the United States.

The defender played three times for Argentina at the World Cup - and memorably scored a late winner against Nigeria - before his national team were knocked out in the last-16 phase on 30 June by the eventual winners, Paul Pogba's France.

Marcos has not played since his Argentina side were knocked out of the World Cup at the end of last month.

Mourinho had previously said that David De Gea and Fred would, like Nemanja Matic, join the rest of their team-mates at some point during Tour 2018, presented by Aon.

When asked by reporters if Rojo will follow suit, the boss said: “I don’t know. He [Marcos] is with the medical department. [I have been] in contact since the World Cup, where he had some physical problem and the medical department has to make a decision if he joins us here or if he goes to Manchester to recover and wait for the team to be back.”

Jose was speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Reds’ third tour match, against Italian giants AC Milan at 04:05 BST on Thursday (Wednesday at 20:05 local time). Fans will be able to watch the game live on MUTV.
