Julia Roberts reunites with Reds in New Jersey

The legendary American actress has previously made no secret of being a big follower of the Reds and was in attendance for our first game in her homeland since 2018, over the weekend.

Club reporter Gemma Thompson had the pleasure of catching up with Roberts at half-time – with United two goals to the good – and she expressed the thrill at seeing her team play up close once more.

“I was excited, I couldn’t go to sleep last night and now we’re up 2-0, so it’s great,” the Hollywood star explained, with a beaming smile on her face.

“It [the first half] was really exciting, I forgot how untethered I become watching them play, it’s just so fun.”

Julia visited Old Trafford to watch the Reds face West Ham United in November 2016 and was a special guest at United's training sessions during our previous two tours to the States, in 2017 and 2018.

She also saw our men's team play matches on both of those pre-season trips, and was back in attendance with her family at Saturday’s game in New Jersey.

After seeing Erik ten Hag’s team win 2-0, Roberts was presented with a special 'Julia 1' shirt by the boss and met our players, posing for a collection of instantly iconic images, which you can see in the gallery below.

“[We’re] so excited [to reunite with the team],” she told us at half-time.

“They’re such a part of our family’s history as avid sports lovers and now the kids are all grown up, they were tiny when we first met everybody, so it will be great to see some people that we know and to meet some of the new players.”

A PRIVILEGE FOR OUR REDS

The Lisandro Martinez fan club has been growing at an exponential rate over the last 12 months, and while we can assume Roberts is a member, it's safe to say that Licha is a big admirer of the actress' work.

Martinez presented her with his shirt after the match, before posting on Instagram: "Such a delight to meet you, @juliaroberts."

Several of Lisandro's team-mates also took to social media to mark meeting the superstar. Among them, Bruno Fernandes called it "a great pleasure" on Instagram Stories, while Harry Maguire captioned his image with Roberts: "Icon. An honour to meet you @juliaroberts."
