New arrival Julia Zigiotti Olme has a lofty target for her first season at Manchester United Women.

The Sweden international is the Reds’ first summer signing, having joined from Bayern Munich on Thursday.

Zigiotti has previous WSL experience with Brighton & Hove Albion and knows the league well.

The midfielder is bullish about the Reds’ chances and sees no reason why we can’t challenge in 2025/26.

INTERVIEW | Julia Zigiotti Olme tells us about her qualities as a player and sets a big target for United Women…

“Win the WSL,” she replied, when asked by Zarah Connolly what she wanted to achieve.

“I want to help this team to go [to the] Champions League, to win the top games, to win the WSL and to help the team get to a better place and work on this project.

“I think that England is the best league there is.

“There’s so many top-class players here, in every team, and the league just keeps growing every year, so I’m very excited to be back and show myself in it.”

Zigiotti comes to Manchester fresh from her involvement at Euro 2025 with the Scandinavians.

Sweden impressed in the group stages and were unfortunate to be eliminated, on penalties by the eventual winners England, after a dramatic and tense quarter-final.

United fans may have seen Zigiotti play that night – the 27-year-old was impressive in Zurich, assisting a goal for Stina Blackstenius and tucking away her spot-kick in the shootout.

For those unfamiliar with our latest addition’s game, she put it into words herself.

Bayern Munich midfielder joins Marc Skinner's squad as our first summer buy.

“I would say I’m a hard-working midfielder, able to defend and secure the backline,” she said.

“But I also like to set up players and get in good positions on the pitch and be a little controlling there.”

Zigiotti has already been getting acquainted with the rest of the squad at Carrington and can’t wait to get properly going, with the pre-season campaign beginning on Sunday, when we take on Aston Villa in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

“It’s really like a family – you feel that from the start. I’m just excited to start training and get to know everyone.”
