Manchester United Women can confirm that captain Katie Zelem has signed a contract extension, keeping her with the club until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Katie joined United in 2018 as part of our inaugural professional side, making her competitive debut in our 1-0 League Cup win over arch-rivals Liverpool on 19 August, that same year.

Katie was named captain in her second season with the club and has made 99 appearances as a Red, scoring 27 goals in the process.

The midfielder is pleased to sign a new deal and expressed her ambitions for future success.

She said: “I’m delighted to extend my contract here at United. Being captain of this wonderful football club is a privilege and something that I am honoured to continue into another exciting season for this group of players. I want to thank the fans for all their support since I joined in 2018 and look forward to making more winning memories together.”

United Women manager Marc Skinner heaped praise on his skipper.

He said: “Katie displays the values and qualities to captain this team. We are delighted that she will continue to lead this group of players, on and off the field. Katie showed last season that she possesses the character to consistently challenge and improve herself, whilst pushing her team-mates to do the same. We look forward to Katie leading our team into many successful seasons to come.”
