A late kit change for United Women's big night

Thursday 19 February 2026 15:00

Match officials have requested a late change of kit for Manchester United Women in Thursday night’s UEFA Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid.

Marc Skinner’s Reds secured a superb 3-0 win from last week’s play-off first leg in Spain. The return fixture takes place tonight at the Progress with Unity Stadium.

Naturally, United were preparing to wear red shirts, black shorts and black socks in front of our home support in Leigh.
However, Atleti have travelled to Manchester with only one goalkeeper kit (orange) and that differs from the originally approved yellow.

During this morning’s matchday meeting, officials decided the orange goalkeeper strip clashes with our red outfield jerseys and a change must be made.
In line with competition regulations, although the error sits with the away team, the responsibility falls to the home team to provide a solution.

Therefore, the agreed solution is for United to wear the black third kit.
