Mainoo's Wolves winner named February's best

Kobbie Mainoo has scooped the Premier League's Goal of the Month award for February, thanks to his ice-cold classic against Wolves.

United were on the verge of a deflating setback at Molineux on 1 February, after late goals from Max Kilman and Pedro Neto had eroded our 3-1 advantage.

With 96 minutes already having passed, it seemed certain the Reds would have to settle for one point, rather than three, when Omari Forson funnelled the ball to Mainoo, about 25 yards from goal.

Taking control of the ball in the inside-left channel, there seemed little on for the youngster, who was making just his ninth appearance in the English top flight.

All The Angles | Seriously, Kobbie Mainoo’s winner at Molineux gets better and better with every watch…

What came next has already entered United folklore: Mainoo danced past one defender, nutmegged another, used Forson's run to open up a shooting angle, and then used one final Wolves player as a guide to curl the ball home with languid ease.

As everyone else of a United persuasion went absolutely berserk, Maino trotted over towards the away end, exchanged a perfunctory high-five with Scott McTominay, and basked in the satisfaction of his maiden Premier League goal.

The match finished seconds later, with United 4-3 winners and Mainoo a hero.
Kobbie's masterpiece was nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month alongside efforts by Richarlison (Tottenham Hotspur), Joao Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Jefferson Lerma (Crystal Palace), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace) and Emerson Palmieri (West Ham).

But the fans have spoken and elected Mainoo as the winner, earning United's third success of the season in this category, following accolades for Bruno Fernandes's thunderous volley against Burnley (September) and Alejandro Garnacho's outrageous overhead versus Everton (November).

There's further cause for celebration, too: earlier today, the league announced that Rasmus Hojlund had been named its Player of the Month, after scoring five goals in four appearances.
