Galton wins WSL Player of the Month award
Manchester United Women’s winger Leah Galton has been voted WSL Player of the Month for December 2020.
December began with a trip to Aston Villa, which was a tight and cagey affair against a defensively organised side.
Prior to our injury-time belter from Ella Toone, the Reds only found a way past the Villa defence once, when Galton’s well-placed finish beat Lisa Weiss in the 25th minute.

Galton saved perhaps her best showing of the month for our last game of 2020, when she netted twice in a 6-1 demolition of Bristol City.
The 26-year-old’s first effort was divine, as she picked the ball up outside the area, dropped the shoulder to beat two Robins defenders, before checking back onto her left foot and smashing it in.
Her second goal of the game might have been even better. The winger wellied it in from the left flank, flashing the ball just over the head of the Bristol keeper, as Galton continued her own personal Goal-of-the-Month crusade, let alone Player of the Month.
Yet, with performances like those demonstrated in December, Galton is certainly stating her case to start every game in a more advanced role for Casey Stoney's side.
Head coach Casey also has reason to celebrate, after claiming the Manager of the Month accolade for December - her second consecutive success.
Leah is the third United player to win the WSL Player of the Month award, after Kirsty Hanson in October 2019 and Tobin Heath in November 2020.
