Lisa Naalsund preparing to face Brighton in Adobe Women's FA Cup

Naalsund: We've got it in us

Lisa Naalsund said it was "nice to be on the pitch" for United’s thumping 4-0 win over Brighton in the sixth round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup, explaining that the performance proves our quality after difficult recent results.

Marc Skinner's Reds scored three times in the first half alone at the Broadfield Stadium in Crawley, ultimately blowing the Seagulls away following two Women's Super League games without a win.

"It was very nice to be on the pitch today because we've had a little bit of a tough season this year," Naalsund explained.

"It feels like with the combinations, we're playing very good [football] and scoring great goals. So it's nice to see that we've got it in us, it's just been a little bit rough."

A jubilant Millie Turner, scorer of United's first goal after eight minutes, echoed those thoughts, saying: "[It was an] unbelievable game from us. We needed it, especially after results that we've had previously. It was good to get back to winning ways."

Naalsund: It's a big step towards the final

Lisa Naalsund says United took a "big step" towards the Adobe Women's FA Cup final tonight...

After goals from Turner, Nikita Parris and Lucia Garcia, Naalsund got the fourth of the evening. It was a stunning strike from the edge of the box after receiving a layoff from the outstanding Melvine Malard. But our no.16's assessment was extremely humble and downplayed its quality.

"Melvine got the ball and she passed it to me, and I just touched it and hit it in the goal," she summarised.

United will now go on to the FA Cup semi-finals next month, where we will be looking to book a trip back to Wembley after reaching the final last season for the first time since reforming in 2018.

"It's very nice to be [in the semi-finals], we want to be there and go to the final, so this is a big step to that," Naalsund explained.

The semi-final draw will be made on Tuesday (12 March) on BBC Radio 5 Live from 08:20 GMT.
