Lisandro Martinez

Martinez pictured doing individual work

There was an encouraging sight at Carrington on Monday, as Lisandro Martinez was pictured at our open training session.

The media are permitted to capture the first 15 minutes of the squad's preparations prior to each UEFA Champions League game.

Victor Lindelof was back after injury for the Reds, ahead of Tuesday's all-important Group A fixture against Bayern Munich, but Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were missing through illness.

Martinez was briefly seen with the group as they emerged out on to the pitches, before going off to conduct some individual work as part of his injury rehabilitation.

Martinez has made six appearances this season.

The Argentina international has been out of action for almost three months, with the reverse fixture, in Munich, marking his most recent Reds appearance.

Shortly after that visit to Germany, it was announced that Licha would have to spend some time on the sidelines, as he had suffered a recurrence of the metatarsal issue which prematurely ended his stellar debut campaign.

The 25-year-old had to undergo surgery to remedy the problem, spending time in his native land before returning to base.

Martinez attended a recent session and, although Erik ten Hag has suggested his return is still some way off, it is good to see our no.6 involved in the day-to-day again.

Licha's fellow South American, Casemiro, was back on the grass on Sunday as he steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Tyrell Malacia was also on the comeback trail, with the Netherlands full-back targeting the new year for his return from surgery.
