Loan news: Jackson and Mather join Tranmere

Tuesday 04 February 2025 00:01

Louis Jackson and Sam Mather have joined League Two club Tranmere Rovers on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Academy pair, who are 19 and 20 respectively, played important roles in our 2022 FA Youth Cup success, both starting the 3-1 final victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

They have been regulars in Travis Binnion's Under-21s side this season, each making nine Premier League 2 appearances.

It's a first senior loan move for Jackson.

Defender Jackson, who hails from Oldham, represents Scotland at youth level and was named on the bench for four first-team matches at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. This will be his first taste of senior experience away from United.

Mather is an England Under-19 international who has scored seven times for our youth teams this term.

He had a loan spell at National League side Rochdale last season, scoring twice in 10 appearances.

Louis and Sam will now join up with the Merseyside club in England's fourth tier, under the management of former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins.

Best of luck for the rest of the season, lads!
