Shaw and Williams injury update
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked for the latest on Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams after both left-backs were forced off during the 2-2 draw with Southampton.
The Reds were on course for third spot in the Premier League until Michael Obafemi's 96th-minute equaliser, which came when both defenders were on the sidelines.
Shaw drove into the box to collect a Marcus Rashford pass and appeared to hurt his ankle, while Williams sustained a nasty-looking gash to his head following an aerial collision with Kyle Walker-Peters, when bravely nodding the ball away.
"Luke twisted his ankle," said the manager, at his post-match press conference. "Hopefully, we can have some good news on him after we've done a scan."
“In a separate interview with MUTV, Ole added: "I can't say [really], I've not seen Brandon because he was with the medical staff and I think he was getting some stitches with a gash over his eye.
“So let's see how he is."
Solskjaer admitted his frustration at not being able to bring on a replacement due to the new rules, which allow five substitutions but only at three intervals (not including the half-time break).
"I don’t know if you want to look into those rules," he said. "Obviously, it was a bad cut and Brandon couldn’t see out of his eye. He [the referee] stopped the game when the Southampton centre-back got a calf injury, I didn’t understand that one early in the second half. I don’t know, it is what it is, we didn’t have too many minutes to see it out with 10 men and we should have done better."
It remains to be seen whether Shaw and Williams will be available for Thursday's game at Crystal Palace, with the boss set to provide an update closer to the trip to London.
