Luke hopes best is to come
Luke Shaw hopes the best is still to come at Manchester United, as he marks 10 years with the Reds.
Shaw, who is currently competing with England at Euro 2024, signed for us on 27 June 2014, from Southampton.
The left-back has gone on to make 275 United appearances, scoring four goals and establishing himself as a regular for both club and country.
He was involved in the successful 2016/17 Europa League campaign, as well as triumphs in the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup under Erik ten Hag.
However special the 28-year-old feels after completing this milestone, he says he’s still not achieved what he originally set out to when arriving as a teenager.
Shaw passes 10 years of service
ArticleStill hopeful of playing for England at Euro 2024, Luke has now clocked up a decade with United.
“I wasn't thinking that I was going to last here for so long,” said Shaw, in an interview conducted earlier this year, before the Euros.
“But, you know, for me, it's really special to be at a club like this: for me, the best and biggest club in the world.
“To be able to be here for coming up to 10 years is, of course, a very special feeling but, for me, I’ve not achieved what I set out to do.
“I’ve still got very high ambitions on what I want to achieve here and, of course, that’s winning the Premier League and the Champions League. I’m not settled yet with that, so I’ve still got to strive to reach those ambitions.”
When it comes to highlights from his time with United, the September 2014 debut against West Ham United at Old Trafford ranks highly.
But our longest-serving player’s sights are firmly focused on the tests ahead, as the Reds look forward to the 2024/25 campaign.
“I have a lot [of highlights],” he added. “The special one is my debut. You know, making my debut for this club is a very special feeling.
“Like I said, I don't want to think too much on the highlights. I think I want to look more forward on what's to come and what I still want to achieve.”
