Luke Shaw says that the atmosphere at Old Trafford during Manchester United’s 2-1 derby win over Manchester City on Saturday was the greatest he’s experienced since joining the Reds.

The England international played at centre-back for the entirety of the match at the Theatre of Dreams, and put in a stellar display as United came from behind to take earn both bragging rights and, more importantly, three priceless points.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford both scored, as Erik ten Hag’s side overturned a Jack Grealish opener to ensure a 10th straight home victory, and Shaw saluted the United supporters for roaring the Reds across the line.

Luke Shaw believes United were good value for three points - and bragging rights - in the Manchester derby...

“It's incredible,” Luke said of the Old Trafford atmosphere in a post-match interview with club media. “For me, I've been here a long time now, I think eight years. For me, today, the atmosphere was the best I've been involved in.

“It shows the fans are with us, they're pushing us in the right direction, and I hope they really enjoyed it today.

“We love the atmosphere; we love them being there and we are glad to be making them happy again.”

Shaw and Varane kept City danger-man Erling Haaland at bay throughout the fixture, with the Reds’ energy and determination ultimately proving the difference between the two sides.

Despite late pressure from Pep Guardiola’s side, and of course the opening goal, Luke felt that United were good value for all three points - as the Blues only had one shot on target all game.

“[I’m] very happy,” he said. I think overall, we deserved to win. I think [in the] first half, we had a lot of chances. On another day we take them but I'm extremely proud of the team.

“Everyone out on the field today gave everything and, especially, the ones who came on and influenced the game, it's a massive help that they're ready to make an impact like they did today. I'm very happy and proud of the team today."

"As a team, we defended so, so well and I think it was, of course, a great game to be involved in. I think like I said already, everybody gave everything, and the most important thing today was the three points.

“No matter [who] the players are that we're playing against, we always aim for three points and to keep climbing that table. We did that today and I'm very happy."
