Shaw: We have to take our chances
Manchester United defender Luke Shaw believes the Reds must start making life easier for ourselves, after we suffered a late defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.
The Seagulls then grew into the contest during the final stages and were rewarded for their efforts when referee Andre Marriner awarded the hosts a penalty for Shaw's handball in the final seconds of stoppage time.
Alexis Mac Allister duly stepped up and fired his penalty into the top corner, meaning the Reds were left to rue our earlier efforts in front of goal.
Shaw: I'm really disappointed
Luke Shaw believes United didn't deserve to lose against Brighton...
Shaw was naturally disappointed to have given the spot-kick away, but pointed out the Reds should have been in a more comfortable position by then.
“Like I said, they're a brilliant team,” began Luke, as he spoke to MUTV post-match.
“They are where they are because they deserve to be there. But, I think if we look at the big chances we created in that first half, I think the game should be much more comfortable and if we score goals, then it makes life easier.
“I think, like I said, it's not just today. It's been in many of our games this season. But yeah, there's obviously no excuses. I was the one that obviously made the mistake at the end. So, I take it on the chin and of course I know I'm disappointed.”
With five Premier League games still to go before the end of our 2022/23 campaign - plus the FA Cup final against Manchester City - Ten Hag's side still hold a four-point advantage over Liverpool in fifth position.
We do have a game in hand on the Merseysiders still and return to action against West Ham this weekend.
Shaw lined up alongside Victor Lindelof again at the heart of our defence this evening and the Three Lions international admitted he felt the Reds did well for large parts of the encounter, but knows the game was there to be won early on.
Talking points from the Amex Stadium
ArticleThe decisive penalty, a milestone for De Gea and Fred's inclusion feature after United's late loss to Brighton.
“But we have to finish the game off before it gets to the end. I think we had so many chances in that first half to be. Of course, we know they're going to have possession.
“But we had three or four big chances in that first half. And that's just how it's been this season that we're not taking our chances. And then, we're in a fight every game.”
