Shaw outlines United's ambitions for 2023/24

Sunday 30 July 2023 15:00

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw says the Reds are working hard to be competitive across all competitions in 2023/24.

Erik ten Hag's side are set to take on Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas at 18:00 local time on Sunday 30 July (02:00 BST on Monday 31 July), live on MUTV, in what will be our final outing of Tour 2023 over in the United States.

Having already tested ourselves against some of Europe's biggest and best sides in preparation for the new campaign, the German giants will be the latest to provide stern opposition, at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada.

Ahead of that match, Luke has amplified his excitement for the upcoming season, stating how our previous term only provides further fuel for another successful one this time around.

Shaw: We're all really excited

Luke Shaw joins MUTV's Sam Homewood to chat all things Tour 2023, whilst also looking ahead to the upcoming season...

''I think we're all really excited,'' began Luke, as he spoke to MUTV's Sam Homewood. ''I think we all feel really good.

''[It's all been] very positive and of course, after ending the season in disappointment [losing in the FA Cup final], I think we've got a lot to improve on this season.

''Our aim from the start of the season has to be winning every single competition we're in and I feel like if we keep adding more strength to our squad, then why not?''

Summer signings Mason Mount and Andre Onana have been present on our trip to the United States, offering them the perfect opportunity to integrate with their new team-mates this summer.

Luke knows his England counterpart Mount from their time together with the national team, and admits it's been a welcome sight to have our new no.7 at the club over recent weeks.

Christian feels the squad is in good shape, particularly after the signing of Mason Mount.

''It's quite strange to be honest,'' Shaw joked, when quizzed on how it is having Mason in the camp. ''But now I'm really happy to have him here.

''I think it's been quite nice for the new lads to come in because sometimes in the past they've come in after the tour and I think the tour is a good time to come [into the squad] because we're all together a lot.

''So it's nice for them to be with the lads and the staff and integrate and get to know everyone a bit more than when you're just at the training ground.

''So it's been really good, really positive and I'm looking forward to one more game.''

With just one more game of Tour 2023 remaining, the Three Lions international also expressed how nice it has been to test the squad's character and progress against tough opponents.

''The games we've had they've been very tough games but, I think it's always good to play against the best to see where we are,'' he added.

''As you know, with the fitness levels but also as a team, it's always better to play in the big games and to get the fitness coming along.

''We're all just trying to push that on to be ready for the start of the season.''
