Shaw voted your Player of the Month

Tuesday 02 April 2019 17:00

Luke Shaw has been voted Manchester United's Player of the Month for the third time this season.

The in-form defender has landed the star-man prize again for his efforts in March, having won back-to-back awards at the start of the campaign, in August and September.

It was a tight outcome, with Luke picking up 43 per cent of votes cast in the poll conducted in our Official App, ahead of fellow nominees Marcus Rashford (32 per cent) and Romelu Lukaku (25 per cent).

Congratulations Luke, and thank you to everybody who voted in the poll.

Shaw was in sensational form once again for the Reds in March.

Our no.23 enjoyed another consistent month in March, in which he appeared in the five games in all competitions at left-back.

Luke was voted Man of the Match in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Watford last weekend by fans in our app poll after another eye-catching display, in which he provided an outstanding assist for Rashford’s opening goal with a raking through-pass.

He also set up his fellow England international Rashford for his late goal in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final against Wolves at Molineux with a fine left-wing cross.

A sustained spell of impressive performances made him impossible to ignore, including being part of the outstanding defensive display in our Champions League last-16 second-leg win at Paris Saint-Germain.

Luke, who missed England duty during the international break through injury, played well in the Reds’ 3-2 win over his former club Southampton at the start of March and was also one of our better performers in the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Watch Luke's brilliant assist for Rashford's goal against Watford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke glowingly of Luke in his post-match press conference after the win over Watford and feels the 23-year-old will only get better.

“He has so much in his locker,” Ole said of Shaw. I can’t wait to see him just blossom. He is exceptional going forward and has sharpness when defending as well. I thought he was top, top class until he got his cramp. It just shows you [his effort].

“He’s struggled a little bit over the international break and couldn’t go away [with England]. It would have been great for him to go there and we’re disappointed he couldn’t, but we had to put him up today.”
