Who won our closest ever Man of the Match poll?

The closest Man of the Match poll in the history of Manchester United's Official App resulted in just 60 votes separating the top two players.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Old Trafford, and our three goalscorers – Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes – dominated the fan vote.

Rashford opened the scoring during the first half with a superlative solo run-and-finish, but Allan Saint-Maximin hauled the Geordies level before the half-time interval.

Daniel James then fired home his second strike within a matter of days to put us ahead in the second period, before Bruno Fernandes made the game safe from the spot after Rashford was fouled inside the area.

But who emerged triumphant in our Man of the Match poll?
Incredibly, for the first time ever, the percentages in the app itself showed two players were dead level.

James and Fernandes both secured a 27 per cent share of the vote, while Rashford finished in third place with an impressive 21 per cent.

There were also strong showings from Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic.

Shaw was a constant threat down the left flank, supporting Rashford superbly, while Matic was heavily involved in the build-up to our second goal and the move which lead to the penalty converted by Fernandes.
But ultimately, fans using our app decided the award should go to Daniel James, who edged out his attacking team-mate Fernandes by a wafer-thin 60 votes.

It's the closest Man of the Match contest we have ever staged and it proves once and for all just how much each and every single vote matters!
