Goalscorer Greenwood named Man of the Match

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Mason Greenwood is ‘enjoying his football’ after getting on the scoresheet once again, but the boss has challenged his Man Utd striker to keep working hard and improving.

The 18-year-old scored for the third Premier League game in succession, during the Reds’ 3-0 win at Villa Park, and was voted our Man of the Match in the Official App.

The teenager also put in another positive attacking performance for Solskjaer’s in-form side, before being withdrawn on 79 minutes for Daniel James.

Greenwood’s goal, struck deep into first-half injury-time, was enough to garner 38 per cent of your vote in our post-match poll, and after the match Solskjaer reiterated that our young prodigy was making the most of playing in the first team.

“Just before I came to the club the youth team beat Chelsea 5-1 or two or something and he scored three I think,” Ole told reporters at his post-match media briefing.

“I watched that game on video and it’s just natural for him to score goals and to handle the ball.

“Now he’s playing with better players he’s enjoying it and he just gets on with his job which he should be and enjoying his football.”

When asked how much Mason can achieve in the coming weeks, months and years, Ole reiterated the need for our young striker to work hard and keep his feet on the ground.

“Well, we’ll need to wait and see. He has to manage himself,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“I’m doing my bit to help him and he has to turn in performances in the training sessions. And in the games, play properly. It’s all down to him and he can go as far as he wants to.”

Paul Pogba, who wrapped up the scoring just before the hour-mark with his first strike since April 2019, came second in our vote, with 36 per cent.
