Zak Dearnley in action for United.

Dearnley joins Oldham Athletic on loan

Manchester United Under-23s forward Zak Dearnley has completed a loan move to League Two side Oldham Athletic for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

The 20-year-old has risen through the ranks at the club after a series of fine performances and has represented Ricky Sbragia’s side on a number of occasions in Premier League 2 this term.

The former England Schoolboys international set up Josh Bohui’s goal in September’s 1-1 draw against Reading at Old Trafford and netted the opener in December’s 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Leigh Sports Village.

A lively forward who is capable of exploiting space down the flanks, Sheffield-born Dearnley received a call-up to the senior squad in May 2017 as an unused substitute for the Reds’ 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on the final day of the Premier League season.

Zak signed a new deal with the club last July after making 19 appearances for Ricky Sbragia’s side last season, scoring once – in a 4-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford.

He is one of three United players to make a deadline-day move to League Two for the rest of the campaign, after midfielders Matty Willock and Callum Whelan joined Crawley Town and Port Vale respectively.

Managerless Oldham currently sit 14th in League Two and welcome Morecambe to Boundary Park on Saturday afternoon.

Everyone at United wishes Zak well during his spell at Oldham.
