Teden Mengi has returned to Manchester United for treatment on a hamstring injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

The 18-year-old, who picked up the injury whilst training with loan club, Derby County, has gained invaluable experience this season by featuring nine times in the Championship.

The Manchester-born Academy graduate began the recovery process with the Rams’ medical staff over the weekend but will now continue his rehab at the Aon Training Complex.

The defender had started five of the previous seven games and was widely praised for his performances before missing Friday’s defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Derby manager Wayne Rooney confirmed the news during Monday's press conference to preview the upcoming match at Preston North End on Tuesday.

Teden will miss the rest of the season and go back to Manchester from today,” confirmed Rooney. “He has been fantastic for us and we've seen him grow with each game.

“We will keep in contact with United and Teden about next season.

“It's not too serious but he will not recover in time to play again.”
