Fan Choice and Alcohol in the Bowl Trial
Supporters attending Barclays Women Super League games at Leigh Sports Village and Old Trafford will have the choice to drink alcohol or non-alcohol drinks within the stands or in view of the pitch for the upcoming season.
Following a successful trial in 2024/25 with four BWSL2 clubs, WSL Football has obtained approval to expand a Fan Choice and Alcohol in the Bowl Trial across the upcoming 2025/26 season which will enable supporters the option to consume alcohol in the stadium bowl or in view of the pitch at participating club venues.
Manchester United is one of 15 BWSL and BWSL2 clubs confirmed to participate in the expanded fan choice pilot, for WSL and League Cup fixtures only, at both Leigh Sports Village and Old Trafford.
Please note, this does not include Adobe Women’s FA Cup fixtures, UEFA Champions League fixtures or friendly matches.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving the matchday experience for all fans attending United Women games, we have sought and secured approvals from Safety Advisory Groups and fan representative bodies including the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, to proceed with the trial for 25/26.
Supporter feedback will be actively encouraged throughout the trial, and we will be sharing further communications, including post-match surveys and fan working groups, throughout the season.
Rick McGagh, director of fan engagement, said:
“Wherever possible we believe fans should have a choice in how they watch and experience our games. We supported the reintroduction of safe standing – and are very proud of our work in that area – and we are supportive of this trial to allow fans at our Manchester United Women’s team games to drink alcohol in view of the pitch should they wish.
“The safety of our supporters is always our priority, and we will continue to work with relevant regulatory and fan bodies to evaluate and review this trial as we go. But we know it works well in many other sports, and at other events at Old Trafford such as Soccer Aid, and we hope fans enjoy this additional option on a matchday and it improves their experience at Leigh Sports Village and Old Trafford.”
