Carabao Cup: Dates set for semi-final derbies
Manchester United have been drawn against Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, and the dates of each leg have now been confirmed.
The sides will meet at Old Trafford first, on Tuesday 7 January 2020. Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT.
Our away leg at the Etihad Stadium will be played three weeks later, on Wednesday 29 January at 19:45. Both games will be shown live on Sky Sports.
The draw for the semi-finals took place at Oxford United's Kassam Stadium, following City's 3-1 victory in the quarter-finals, and was conducted by Chris Kamara and Dennis Wise.
Of course, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reds won the Manchester derby in the Premier League recently, 2-1 away from home, but the manager has the utmost admiration for our neighbours.
Speaking after his team progressed to the last-four stage by beating Colchester United 3-0, Ole said of the semi-finals: “[They will be] fantastic days in Manchester. Of course, we do really respect them and, as I said after the derby last time, in my opinion, they are the best team in England.
“They can out-football you so we need to get our game heads on and be ready for them again. But we've shown them that we can cause them problems. I think they will be two fantastic games."
In a separate interview with MUTV, the manager added: "No, I don't believe in things being written in the stars. But we take what comes our way. We've got a good memory from the last time we played them."
Leicester City, who progressed past Everton on penalties, meet Aston Villa, conquerors of Liverpool, in the other last-four tie.
The Carabao Cup final will take place at Wembley on 1 March.
