FA Youth Cup tie goes ahead

Monday 13 December 2021 16:20

Manchester United's FA Youth Cup tie with Scunthorpe United is going ahead, as planned, with a 19:00 GMT kick-off.

The club issued a statement on Monday afternoon confirming a COVID-19 outbreak has led to first-team operations at the training ground in Carrington being closed.

However, due to the different bubbles the teams are kept in, the Under-18s are able to play their eagerly anticipated fixture.

We can confirm that first-team operations at Carrington have been closed down after positive Covid-19 tests.

For those who have not already bought tickets for the third-round tie, the match is being shown live on MUTV.

The two sides are competing for the right to face Reading in the next round of the competition, with that fixture due to be played before 15 January 2022.

United are the most successful club in FA Youth Cup history, winning the competition on 10 occasions (1953, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1964, 1992, 1995, 2003 and 2011) and reaching a further four finals (1982, 1986, 1993, 2007).

The club's best performance in the last few years was a semi-final appearance in 2019/20.
