How you can support an inspirational young Red

The six-year-old Red will set off from Stockton Heath Primary School on Saturday 29 January,  all to raise much-needed funds for a new playground that he and his fellow pupils can enjoy.

Harvey, whose favourite player is Luke Shaw, visited the Theatre of Dreams in advance of his charity walk for a chat with our reporter Mark Sullivan, which you can watch in the video below.

Harvey's proud mum Naomi says her son's determination to train and practice for the walk has been nothing short of fantastic. “We’re blown away by the amount of support we’ve had from friends, family, locals and avid Manchester United fans,” she told ProperManchester.com ahead of the walk. 

“We have hit the halfway target within a matter of weeks. It’s incredible to think so many people are supporting him with his walk.

“This walk is a huge challenge for anyone, never mind a six-year-old boy, but the determination he has is incredible to see. I know he will do a fantastic job on the day. We are so proud of him.”

Harvey’s headteacher, Dan Harding, who will be joining him on the walk said: “For a Year One child to plan to walk such an incredible distance to fundraise for his school is outstanding.

“Harvey is one of our school councillors and has really enjoyed learning about our plans to redevelop the EYFS and Forest School outdoor areas.

“He knows a huge amount of money is needed for our plans to become a reality so it’s great to see such a young child be so generous, selfless and thoughtful for the benefit of the wider school community and I am looking forward to undertaking this challenge alongside Harvey.”
