7 topics from the first Fans' Forum of 2023/24

Friday 13 October 2023 16:00

We kicked off the first Fans’ Forum of the 2023/24 season on Tuesday 10 October, meeting with our fan representatives to discuss matters affecting fans and to identify ways we can improve the experience of our loyal supporters.

This meeting was the first to take place since our recruitment of six new representatives, ensuring our work continues to fairly reflect the needs of our growing, vibrant, and diverse global fanbase.

It was a packed agenda to discuss and unpick, so we’ve selected the top seven things you need to know from Tuesday’s meeting:

1. We are continuing to invest in our football facilities
The construction of the new £7m Women & Academy Team facility has been completed, and is now being used. The complex will provide an enhanced environment for our teams giving them the best chance of success on the pitch.

2. Changes to our ticketing policy for cup games
Following issues with away fans in home areas at the UEFA Champions League home match against Galatasaray, we have taken steps to minimise issues at all future cup games by initially restricting sales to fans within our existing ticketing database at the time of the draw. This covers both general admission and hospitality tickets.

3. Reds are taking over the world!
We are thrilled to have welcomed 16 new official supporters’ clubs over the last quarter, taking us to 291 clubs across 96 countries! Our most recent supporters’ clubs include our first ever clubs in Zambia and Tanzania, along with clubs dedicated to 16-25 ‘youth’ fans and fans who are part of the armed forces. 4. Clarification on the number of matchday hospitality tickets on sale at Old Trafford
Setting the record straight: the number of matchday hospitality tickets available for purchase has not increased this season. We still sell a maximum of 3,000 matchday hospitality tickets per fixture, which is only 4 per cent of the stadium capacity. Revenues from hospitality sales help us keep general admission seats affordable.

5. Foundation donations and tickets returned for a refund are only ever resold as GA tickets
Continuing to debunk the myths, we never resell a general admission ticket that is donated to the MU Foundation, or returned to us via the buy-back scheme, as a hospitality ticket. They will always be resold as a general admission ticket and all monies are given to the Foundation, which last season raised over £600,000 – thank you for your fantastic support!

6. Increased transparency around ticket allocations
Following discussions with the Forum, and to allay any fears or misconceptions about ticketing allocations, we will start sharing a breakdown of data for each game showing how many tickets are allocated to each group of fans (e.g. season tickets, matchday hospitality, away fans).

7. Making it easier to get to and from OT
Thanks to the Fans’ Forum, and following meetings with Transport for Greater Manchester and others, we are pleased to see the return of the bus service back to Manchester city centre after games.* Additionally, there will now be increased capacity on key Metrolink lines including the East Didsbury line with more double trams being deployed.

*The initial rollout will service Premier League matches and will be reviewed ahead of any expansion to additional cup fixtures.
