Manchester United's first training session ahead of the 2023/24 season featured new signing Mason Mount and several other fresh options for manager Erik ten Hag to ponder.

Our big signing from Chelsea joined in with his team-mates, fresh from sealing his transfer on Wednesday, and appeared to love his new environment, throwing himself into the session and sharing laughs and jokes with the likes of Lisandro Martinez.

It was encouraging to see the Argentina defender back on the grass, after he missed the run-in, and Donny van de Beek was also part of the main group for the first time since injuring his knee against Bournemouth at the start of the year.

Antony and Anthony Martial, who were both forced to miss the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City, were other senior figures to take part.

Young players back from spells out on loan, such as Amad and Hannibal, will be striving to push on now they have more first-team experience, at Championship level, under their belts.

Obviously, there was a great deal of representation from the Academy, with the senior players who were involved in last month's international matches not due back at the club until next week.

Kobbie Mainoo, who was handed his senior debut by Ten Hag last term, was in the mix and will be looking to show how he has developed since his three first-team outings across three different competitions (Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup) in January and February,

Mainoo's fellow FA Youth Cup winners Rhys Bennett, Marc Jurado, Maximiliano Oyedele, Dan Gore, Isak Hansen-Aaroen and Joe Hugill were also among those participating.

Preparations will continue as the countdown to the pre-season action continues, with a clash against Leeds United first up, in Oslo next Wednesday, live on MUTV.
