Training update from Cyprus

Friday 07 October 2022 15:30

Manchester United’s players were able to train in sunny Cyprus on Friday, following Thursday night’s 3-2 Europa League victory over Omonia Nicosia.

Normally the squad would return to the UK immediately after a European game and land at Manchester Airport in the early hours of the morning.

However, Erik ten Hag felt that staying over at the team’s Larnaca base provided better preparation for our next test, as we travel to Goodison Park on Sunday evening to take on Everton in the Premier League.

The Reds' travelling party was split into two groups for the warm-weather sessions, with 11 players remaining at the hotel to work on their recovery. Ten of these 11 started the game at GSP Stadium, with Marcus Rashford - who won Man of the Match after scoring twice as a substitute - also joining them.

Tyrell Malacia - who started against Omonia - joined all six unused subs plus Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Fred, for the short trip to the  AEK Arena, which is the home of local side AEK Larnaca.

There, in bright sunshine and warm temperatures, they did some recovery stretches, before working with the ball on rondos and passing drills under the watchful eye of the coaching staff.

You can check out images and videos from both locations across our platforms.

Following the sessions, the players departed for Larnaca Airport, with the flight home set to land in Manchester later on Friday evening.

United now have six points from our three Europa League games and we sit second in Group E, behind leaders Real Sociedad.

Our next continental test sees us host Omonia at Old Trafford next Thursday (13 October), with kick-off at 20:00 BST.
