Marcus Rashford has been named in UEFA's Europa League Team of the Season.

The Manchester United forward was joint-leading scorer in the competition, even though the Reds were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by eventual winners Sevilla.

It is the latest recognition of the England international's sterling efforts in 2022/23, as he scored six goals in nine outings in Europe, including a stellar showing in the away draw at Barcelona in the play-off round.

The lively forward bagged twice in the 3-2 win over Omonia Nicosia in October, and was on the scoresheet again during the 3-0 victory against Sheriff later that month.

After the World Cup, he struck past Barca keeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen at his near post before showing great skill to force an own goal by Jules Kounde seven minutes later, as we drew 2-2 in the Nou Camp.

Rashford then netted in both legs against Real Betis to take his tally to six, the same figure posted by Union Saint-Gilloise hitman Victor Boniface. Marcus also contributed three assists across the Europa League campaign.

Two former Reds also feature in the best XI - Chris Smalling and Nemanja Matic, who currently represent Roma under ex-United boss Jose Mourinho.

The experienced pair helped the Serie A side make it all the way to the final, only to lose on penalties to Sevilla following a 1-1 draw.

The Spanish victors have four players in the Team of the Season for the competition, the same number as Roma.

The all-star XI was selected by UEFA's technical observer panel, with Sevilla's 37-year-old defender Jesus Navas picking up their individual Player-of-the-Season prize.
