United and Arsenal compete for the ball in the Dallas Cup semi-finals

Reds bow out in Dallas Cup shoot-out

Manchester United were beaten 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out by Arsenal after a 2-2 draw in the semi-final of the Dallas Cup in Texas.

Kieran McKenna's side started brightly and went ahead in the 20th minute, when Largie Ramazani calmly slotted past Arthur Okonkwo, following a James Garner pass. A second goal arrived eight minutes before the interval. Garner, who has enjoyed an outstanding tournament, capped a fine move to fire home a Mason Greenwood assist and put the Reds firmly in the driving seat.

However, substitute Bukayo Saka pulled one back soon after half-time and levelled just past the hour mark, when his effort went in off the bar. Both sides had chances in extra-time, with United keeper Matej Kovar deflecting a shot by Robert Lee Burton against the woodwork and Tahith Chong going close for McKenna's side.

Benson and Clarke missed in the shoot-out for Arsenal, only for Garner and D'Mani Mellor to also fail from the spot. Although Jake Kenyon found the net, as Chong had with the first penalty, Ethan Galbraith's attempt was saved by Okonkwo to take Arsenal through to meet Tigres in the final.

Tigres, who drew 2-2 with United in the first game of the event, beat Monterrey 4-1 in the other semi-final.

The young Reds will return to England to concentrate on trying to win the Under-18 Premier League.
