Ten Hag's update on Pellistri's injury

Friday 12 August 2022 15:00

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed young forward Facundo Pellistri will be unavailable for selection until September, due to the injury he sustained late last month.

The Uruguay international spent last season on loan with Alaves in La Liga and returned to Carrington in the summer, eager to impress our new manager in training.

Pellistri duly earned a place in Ten Hag’s Tour 2022 squad and immediately made a positive impression by scoring in our opening friendly in Thailand: the entertaining 4-0 win over Liverpool.

You can watch that goal in the video below…

Eric Bailly burst out of defence to create the move that led to Facundo Pellistri's goal, live on MUTV...

A popular personality and diligent professional, Facundo continued to feature in our pre-season matches around the world and was seemingly catching the eye of our coaching staff.

Unfortunately, a setback occurred when the 20-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the closing stages of our match against Atletico Madrid in Oslo, Norway, at the end of July.
Pellistri has not been pictured training since and, in our latest interview with Ten Hag at Carrington, we asked if the injury might affect the possibility of the Uruguayan going out on loan.

“Yes, I think so, because he’s injured,” said the manager at the training ground. “The prognosis is that he will not return before September.”

Still only 20 years old, Pellistri has plenty of time on his side and is determined to enhance his education this season, whether that is at United or elsewhere on loan again.

Our full interview with Ten Hag will be available to read from 07:00 BST on Saturday (13 August).
